The Benefits of Eucalyptus: Why This Greenery Deserves a Place in Your Home

If you've ever taken one of my floral classes or ordered an arrangement from Bel Fleur Lakay, you've probably noticed that I love using eucalyptus. While roses and other blooms usually get all the attention, eucalyptus is one of my favorite stems because it adds so much beauty and brings a sense of calm to every arrangement.

It's one of those simple touches that can completely transform a bouquet and even the feeling of a room.

It Makes Your Home Feel Like a Spa

One of my favorite things about eucalyptus is its fresh, clean scent. The moment you walk into a room with fresh eucalyptus, it creates a peaceful atmosphere that reminds me of a luxury spa. It's subtle, refreshing, and instantly makes a space feel more relaxing.

Sometimes I'll even keep a few stems in a vase by themselves because they're beautiful all on their own.

It Makes Every Arrangement Look Fuller

As a florist, I'm always thinking about balance and movement. Eucalyptus helps fill in an arrangement naturally without taking attention away from the flowers. It gives bouquets that soft, organic look that I absolutely love.

Whether I'm designing with roses, hydrangeas, carnations, or seasonal flowers, eucalyptus always ties everything together.

It Lasts Longer Than Most People Expect

One of the best things about eucalyptus is how long it lasts. With fresh water and a little care, it can stay beautiful for weeks. Even after it dries, it keeps its shape and color, so many people continue displaying it long after their flowers are gone.

I always tell my clients not to throw it away too quickly because dried eucalyptus is beautiful too.

It's Perfect for Beginners

When I teach floral design classes, eucalyptus is one of the first greens I introduce. It's easy to work with, helps create a balanced arrangement, and gives students confidence because they can immediately see their bouquet come to life.

It's amazing how just a few stems can make such a big difference.

A Few Tips for Keeping It Fresh

Keeping eucalyptus fresh is simple.

Trim the stems before placing them in clean water.

Change the water every few days.

Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat.

Remove any leaves that sit below the water line.

These small steps can help your eucalyptus stay beautiful much longer.

More Than Just Greenery

People often think of eucalyptus as "just greenery," but to me it's so much more than that. It adds texture, fragrance, movement, and a feeling that makes an arrangement feel complete.

Whether you're building your own bouquet at one of our flower bars or bringing home fresh flowers for your kitchen table, I almost always recommend adding eucalyptus. It's one of those little details that makes a big impact.

Thank you for following along and allowing me to share a little of what I love most about flowers. I hope the next time you see eucalyptus, you'll appreciate just how much beauty one simple stem can bring.
